A total of 73,059 engineering seats are lying vacant in engineering colleges of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states at the end of the first phase of EAMCET 2014 counselling.
Around 57,382 engineering seats in Andhra Pradesh and around 15,677 seats in Telangana are lying vacant, after 174 engineering colleges were disaffiliated from participating in the counselling.
According to the officials, the reason for the poor response was sub-standard facilities of colleges and the delay in the commencement of counselling, which forced students to take admission outside the AP and TS.
In Andhra Pradesh, a total of 1,16,029 seats out of 1,89,088 seats were filled in 326 engineering colleges across the state.
In Telangana, 63,190 seats out of 1,20,572 seats were filled in 149 engineering colleges across the state.
Around 1,03,450 students were eligible for admission to engineering courses in both AP and TS.
"Filling of seats in management quota would be done by the TSCHE," its chairman T Papi Reddy said.
The dates for the second round of engineering courses has not been yet announced.
